The Book of Thoth Etteilla Tarot is a reproduction of a nineteenth century tarot deck based on the deck created by Etteilla. “Etteilla” is the pseudonym of Jean-Baptiste Alliette (1738 – 12 December 1791). Etteilla is simply the reverse of his surname. He was the French occultist who was the first to popularize tarot divination to a wide audience back in 1785, and one the first professional tarot occultist known to history who made his living by card divination.
The deck will thrill readers drawn to the historic origins of the deck and the historic imagery. Some familiar images like the Chariot, Death, the Tower, and Justice are used, but there are many unexpected card. The numbered Minor cards are pip cards. All the cards contain both a title and two key words, one upright and one reversed. All words are in French, since this is a reproduction of a French deck.
