The iconic 1JJ Swiss Tarot Decd descends from the Tarot de Besançon, in turn originating from the Tarot of Marseilles. Featuring Italian suits, Juno and Jupiter in place of the Popess and Pope of the Tarot of Marseilles. It was the first tarot pack made by Johann Georg Rauch's card factory between 1831 and 1838, and its surprise success in the American market led to its continued, unchanged manufacture by Johannes Müller in Diessenhofen until 1860.
In 1965, AGMüller released a new version of the card game, replete with cleaner lines and bearing the name 1JJ Swiss Tarot--the "1" to reflect its position in the product line, and "JJ" changing two trumps to Juno and Jupiter.
This latest edition is printed in Belgium by AMG. It features a classic Marseilles tarot deck of 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana, all with English titles. The Minor Arcana have the classic Swords, Staves, Cups, and Coins. A 10-page guidebook provides an in-depth look at Major Arcana interpretations plus guidance for doing a ten-card Celtic Cross spread.
